![]() ![]() The Byzantines ( actually called Romans and Greeks in the Middle Ages) are a Southern European civilization in Age of Empires II (Middle Eastern before the Definitive Edition). For a time in England, all sports but archery were banned on Sundays, thus the Britons also have faster Archery Ranges. Known as skilled shepherds and heavily involved in the wool trade, British shepherds work faster. The Britons were known for their small villages scattered across England, as well as their tactics of encroaching on enemies with strongholds, and thus get cheaper Town Centers. Their Castle Age unique technology Yeomen refers to the fact that the Britons heavily relied on archery, thus giving their foot archers even more range, as well as increasing their tower damage. Longbowmen are archers with higher range than every other archer in the game, even outranging Castles and towers in later stages of the game. The Britons' unique unit is the Longbowman, from their historical use of the English Longbow in their campaigns. They represent the English and the Anglo-Normans during the High Middle Ages and Late Middle Ages. It's a major time commitment, and eventually I start to crave a new Civ to control with a new map to explore. The Britons are a Western European civilization in Age of Empires II. The long game is Civ at its best.but it can get boring after a while. You get to see small skirmishes, epic 100 year wars, and tense battles of attrition play out in cool ways. It's really cool to see things unfold and appreciate the mechanics on a grander scale. I once tried a Marathon (or was it Epic?) game in Civ 4 on the largest map possible crammed with other civs. There's also enough time between techs that all of your unit types and buildings will be useful at some point. Gives more time to plan ahead and allows for mistakes. I'll play Standard if I'm on Prince or higher difficulty. By the time I get a musketman on the table, within a few turns he's already obsolete. The only downside is that you never really get time to appreciate your new units, resources and buildings. Quick game if I'm playing a comp stomp for shits & giggles. ![]()
